Let me start by sharing two of the best books that I have read this school year. The first is the "Hunger Games
." I first heard about this book last summer at IUSWP, but upon picking it up and just reading the cover I had no interest in reading it. I was working on a grant this year and received quite a bit of money to purchase books for my classroom. This was one of the books I picked up. It sat on my self for many months. Then finally after more teacher friends had more praises for it I started to read it, and I could not put it down.The Story centers around a young teen, Katniss, who has been chosen to enter a country's annual games where only one person comes out alive. Along the way she befriends an unlikely opponent and she is forced to choose between her life and what she knows is right. Suzanne Collins takes the reader on a visual journey through the future, a future that none of us could ever imagine existing.
As soon as I finished the first one, I immediately picked up the sequel. My personal opinion is that this book is much better than the first. Collins takes the reader into a reality that no one saw coming.
I will not give anything away on the plot, because it will then take away from the first book.
These two books are by far the top books checked out in my classroom by the students (and teachers).
